Recently, I was reading Daniel chapter 6, and became challenged all over again by his testimony. It is said in verse 3b that "an excellent spirit was upon him".
This excellence was seen by the king and influenced the position he was given, as he "set him over the whole realm" v 3b. Daniel became the focus of the presidents and princes who wanted to destroy him (without cause) but realised that beacuse of his excellent spirit there was no other means of attack 'as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault in him' v 4b.
What seemed as a good plot backfired as Daniel refused to surrender to a decree that would destroy the very foundation on which his excellent spirit was nutured, that of consistent prayer and thanksgiving, v 10. How prepared are you to stand up against what will destroy the pillars on which your chrsitian commitment is built?
The result of this is that God moved on Daniel's behalf, He showed up in the lion's den, the place of a perceived demise and shut the lion's mouth. Men sealed the den, but that was only external. In the midst of the possible attack, God stood and shut down the enemy's plan. Hallelujah! Consequently, the entire province was given a new decreee to worship the God of Daniel. What a testimony!
Friends, I know that many times we are not as consistent as we should be with our times of devotion. Our lives of thanksgiving and praise sometimes are pushed back by various situations. Let me encourage you that like Daniel, we remain focussed and allow nothing or no one to cause us not to spend time with our Master in prayer and praise. This is how we like Daniel, we will live, walk and serve in the spirit of excellence. This is the spirit that is needed for others to see God in us and to cause God himself to move in and intervene on our behalf when the storms of life are raging.
Be blessed!
