FROM THE WORD

Life is a tapestry of experiences that impact us in different ways. They provide us with unending opportunities to learn as we mature. This blog is my open door for you and I to share, heart to heart.

As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.

The Spirit of Excellence

Recently, I was reading Daniel chapter 6, and became challenged all over again by his testimony. It is said in verse 3b that "an excellent spirit was upon him".
This excellence was seen by the king and influenced the position he was given, as he "set him over the whole realm" v 3b. Daniel became the focus of the presidents and princes who wanted to destroy him (without cause) but realised that beacuse of his excellent spirit there was no other means of attack 'as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault in him' v 4b.
What seemed as a good plot backfired as Daniel refused to surrender to a decree that would destroy the very foundation on which his excellent spirit was nutured, that of consistent prayer and thanksgiving, v 10. How prepared are you to stand up against what will destroy the pillars on which your chrsitian commitment is built?
The result of this is that God moved on Daniel's behalf, He showed up in the lion's den, the place of a perceived demise and shut the lion's mouth. Men sealed the den, but that was only external. In the midst of the possible attack, God stood and shut down the enemy's plan. Hallelujah! Consequently, the entire province was given a new decreee to worship the God of Daniel. What a testimony!
Friends, I know that many times we are not as consistent as we should be with our times of devotion. Our lives of thanksgiving and praise sometimes are pushed back by various situations. Let me encourage you that like Daniel, we remain focussed and allow nothing or no one to cause us not to spend time with our Master in prayer and praise. This is how we like Daniel, we will live, walk and serve in the spirit of excellence. This is the spirit that is needed for others to see God in us and to cause God himself to move in and intervene on our behalf when the storms of life are raging.
Be blessed!

Break Free

I am back friends, having broken free from tardiness, poor time management and all the things that kept me form blogging. I trust that amidst all that is happening globally and in your personal lives, your faith is still fixed on the Lord and He is still your Lamb, Saviour, Shepherd and friend.

So much has happened personally and internationally since I last shared. Anyway, amidst all of this, I am recognising in a renewed way the need to lose myself from some friendships that are just over. I am not talking about intimate relationships at all, I am referring to those that are clearly in my life for a season and I seem to be trying to make them lifetime ones. I am sure you know what I am talking about. When you cannot even come up with three good reasons why these people are in your life then you might just be doing what I have been doing. If it is over...break free!

Two Sundays ago the message was from Hebrews 12. The preacher spoke of the need to put off what is hindering your growth. This is by no means anything new, but an honest examination of our lives will reveal many things from which we need to BREAK FREE! For you, it may not be a friendship. It may be:

  • a bad habit
  • a distasteful cliche that you have just allowed to become a part of your day to day talk (cause so many are using it)
  • filthy music
  • substance addiction
  • sexual struggles
  • gossiping

Whatever it is, the time to liberate yourself is now. Freedom is empowering...challenge yourself to experience it as you examine your heart allowing God by His sprit to cleanse you!

BREAK FREE!

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you saith the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me and ye shall go and pray unto me and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
